TikTok has resumed service for its 170 million US users after President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to issue an executive order granting the app a reprieve upon taking office on Monday. The app had ceased functioning for American users on Saturday evening after a ban citing national security concerns came into effect. However, Trump, who had previously supported the ban, pledged on Sunday to delay its enforcement to allow time for a resolution. Shortly after, TikTok began restoring its services, with a popup message thanking Trump by name. The company also released a statement expressing gratitude to the incoming president for "providing clarity and assurance" and pledged to collaborate on a "long-term solution" to ensure TikTok remains in the United States.  TikTok creators are speaking out against a potential US ban, warning that the platform could "go dark" within days if such a move is implemented. Lawyers for TikTok and content creators have argued before the Supreme Court that a potential law to ban the platform infringes on the free speech rights of its 170 million American users. The content creators' representative emphasized their right to "work with the publishers of their choice." However, a lawyer for the US government argued that TikTok represents a "grave threat" to national security, citing concerns over the platform's ties to its parent company, ByteDance, and its connections to China. The nine justices are expected to rule on the case soon. The law, passed by Congress last year, requires ByteDance to either sell TikTok in the US or cease operations by January 19. Teton County Search & Rescue issued a statement, saying they were alerted to a "known avalanche burial" on Togwotee Pass in the Absaroka Mountains around midday on Saturday. The avalanche was triggered by a group of four skiers ascending the slope. "The avalanche partially buried one skier and fully buried another. The skier who was partially buried sustained a lower leg injury," the statement said. The body of the deceased skier has been recovered. While Wyoming is not in the path of the current winter storm, ski resorts across regions from Oregon to Vermont have experienced snowpacks exceeding 100 inches (254 cm) this season.

Kansas and Missouri are at the center of the storm's path.

Kansas and Missouri are at the center of the storm's path. Kansas and Missouri are among the areas facing the brunt of the storm, with more than 10 inches (25 cm) of snow already recorded in some areas by Sunday afternoon. The winter weather led to the closure of all highways in northeastern Kansas and the cancellation of thousands of flights from Kansas City airport, just across the border in Missouri. Kansas City official Brian Platt described the storm as "one of the most historic" the city has ever experienced. "We haven’t seen more than 10 inches in 32 years," he said.
